As I wrote in my recent post that I am working hard to find a proper hack for the latest unhackable firmwares, so there is a good news for all those users who have already tried all the hacks and have messed up their device!

Nokia has tightened up all the security holes in their latest firmwares thus making it impossible to hack the permissions/capabilities and install unsigned, or expired applications but some of the masterminds have still succeeded to break the symbian platform security.

Update 08/03/09: This hack has been confirmed on N95, N95 8GB, and N82 with the latest unhackable firmwares. If you are looking for a hack for the old firmwares read this article.

Let’s wind it up and start with the hack!

Requirements:

First you need a developer certificate to sign the apps involved in the hack. Yes it ruins the concept of the hack but you need to do it if you want to have all the permissions and install any application of your choice either unsigned or expired.

You can request for a developer certificate on OPDA forum if you don’t have one already. I requested on two different sites, both chinese, and managed to get one from the OPDA forum in just 6 hours. The other one, after 4 days of the request, said that their Publisher ID has been rejected. You can also request for a developer certificate on OPDA forum.

The site is in chinese language and you have to work your way out to get a certificate. You can use the google translation service to make it easy but don’t use the translation while registration because it wouldn’t allow you to register in that case. Here is a complete tutorial with screenshots on how to obtain a devcert from OPDA.

After you get your developer certificate you can continue with the hack.

Installation Guide:

  1. Sign and Install MapDrives.Unsigned.sis (there is no icon for the application after installation, it is normal)
  2. Sign and Install HelloOX.Unsigned.sis
  3. Run HelloOX

The rest of the process is done by HelloOX. You don’t have to do these steps manually!

What HelloOX did?

FP1:

  1. Unpack exe files to E:\hack\sys\bin\
  2. Run MapDrives (HelloOX) then uninstall it
  3. Install ROMPatcher
  4. Apply open4all patch
  5. Move installserver.exe to C:\sys\bin\
  6. Install rootCerts (optional)
  7. Remove unneeded E:\hack folder
  8. Done!

FP2:

  1. Unpack exe files to E:\hack\sys\bin\
  2. Run MapDrives (HelloOX) then uninstall it
  3. Install rootCerts
  4. Install ROMPatcher
  5. Apply open4all patch
  6. Remove unneeded E:\hack folder
  7. Done!

Please note:
FP2 doesn’t have a working installserver yet, HelloOX will install leftup+BiNPDA+OPDA rootCerts, leftup cert & key included in this package for you to install anything you want!

If the ‘Applying patches’ or ‘Installing rooterts’ process takes a long time then you probably need to hard format your device by turning off the phone and then turning on while holding Green Call Key+3+* and then run the HelloOX application.

If HelloOX application does not work for you then there is also another way to propely hack your phone.

Requirements:

Installation Guide:

  1. First you need to sign the Drakkarious hack and then install it into your phone. You will get the modded MapDrives application.
  2. Run it and it will immediately close.
  3. Now from any file browser like X-Plore or Y-Browser goto H:\Sys\Bin\
  4. Open the file installserver.rar
  5. Now extract installserver.exe from the archive to H:\Sys\Bin\
  6. Try installing ROMPatcher and you should be able to install it
  7. Disable caps from the ROMPatcher menu
  8. Finally, copy installserver.exe from H:\Sys\Bin\ to C:\Sys\Bin\
  9. (Optional) Uninstall the MapDrives application

By now you should be able to install any unsigned or expired application in your symbian device. In case you were not able to perform this hack properly or something went wrong leave me a comment and I will try to help you out.
